Film Evaluation

I think that my short film was decent but it could've been better. The good parts of our film I would say are some of the shots that we had used such as a long shot of the girl walking to her house in the evening and the camera pans to follow the girl. I also thought that we had a good go at creating a dialogue which not many other groups had so this made our film stand out a bit. We also used quite a bit of fades to smoothen out the transition from the different days we were filming as continuity was hard to achieve. Another good thing our film had was lots of point of view shots which were used to put the audience in the same shoes as the protagonist but also the stalker. For example the shot where the stalker is hiding in a bush and is peeking at the girl was a good shot as the blurred bush was in the foreground and the girl was the focus in the background. This looked like a genuine point of view shot so I was quite happy with that. Another good shot in our film happened by complete accident but it made the guy seem ever weirder and scarier. It was a tracking shot where the camera follows the girl walking down a pathway and the guy was supposed to jump out from behind the tree however in the camera the guy gets blocked by the girl so it looks like the guy jumps out of thin air and this puzzled the audience as he appears out of nowhere.

There were quite a few areas we could've improved upon in our film. The genre of our film was thriller/horror where a girl goes on a date and meets a weird stalker and I feel we didn't express the genre of our choice very well in the film until the last scene. We could've improved this by maybe shooting at a darker period of day and maybe adding an ominous instrumental throughout the video to tell the audience that something was off. Though we did use fades which seemed to have worked well there were a few times that it wasn't so smooth and I think we should've shortened the fade or maybe not even had one as it didn't look right in the final product. Furthermore we decided to use jump cuts in the last scene where the guy was walking through the church to cut down the length of the video and also the length of the shot. Though it was a good idea it was not executed correctly as it looked weird and funny and I believe this was because the time between the jumps were not equal so it didn't look nice.
